Jay Leno Test Drives the Morgan 3 Wheeler

Morgan 3 Wheeler

Jay Leno has a garage that can’t even be put into words. It’s simply the envy of every car guy on the planet. Word is, his garage is about to become even sweeter once a spot is cleared for the new version of the Morgan 3 Wheeler that’s soon to be released.

The 2012 Morgan 3 Wheeler pays homage to the original runabout (‘Cyclecar’) that “HFS” Morgan began developing in 1909. The radical design was truly a work of art and was built with three core principles in mind – all of which have stood the test of time, that’s simplicity, lightweight, and affordability. The lightweight chassis was fitted to a V-twin motorcycle engine, and was operated by a simple two-gear transmission. A more sophisticated three-speed with reverse would eventually be introduced in later models.

This rear-drive three-wheeler was not the least bit ordinary, but it was also far from being a simple gimmick either. With an impressive record at the race track and various other competitions it’s clear that the Morgan 3 Wheeler was built for performance, and built for enthusiasts. So, too is the new model.

The new Morgan 3 Wheeler features an 1800cc V-Twin engine that produces 115 horsepower and 140 lb-ft of torque. Don’t scoff, remember this car is built to be extremely lightweight. At just 1,090 pounds the 3 wheeler is able to find 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds and maxes out at 115 mph. The estimated MSRP should be around $50,000, which is not bad considering that you’ll turn more heads compared to almost anything else that’s on the road. The uniqueness that this vehicle offers and the amazing lineage that it has behind it seems well worth the coin.

Hear what Jay Leno has to say about the 2012 Morgan 3 Wheeler as he takes it on a test drive through Melvern.
