Move Over Ferrari – Maserati To Get Twin-Turbo Pentastar V-6

Over Ferrari - Maserati

Rumors are swirling that some drastic changes could be in store for future Maserati GranTurismo and Quattroporte models. Reports indicate that Maserati will soon ditch their V-8 used in those particular vehicles, in favor of some American muscle by way of Pentastar. But, not even your typical huge displacement and naturally aspirated American engine. Instead, according to Inside Line, Maserati may opt for Pentastar’s twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6. If true, the Chrysler engine would replace the current Ferrari V-8 used in the GranTurismo and Quattroporte. Chrysler replacing Ferrari… Welcome to the twilight zone?

Though it’s simply a rumor at this point, it’s still not hard to believe considering the growing trend towards turbocharged engines. Even the Ferrari FXX is rumored to be making the switch to turbochargers as well, with a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 making around 750 horsepower. A downgrade from the 789 hp 6.3-liter V12 that the FXX is currently fitted with.
